10 Reasons to Buy and Hold TSLA
Time horizon:long-term (buy and hold, DCA).
1. FSD is turning into a recurring software business. over 55% of new US Teslas sold in Q2 2026 came with a $99 a month FSD subscription. That's high-margin revenue that recurs on every car.
2. Buyers are coming in for FSD itself. Musk reportedly said people come into showrooms to buy FSD, "with a Tesla on the side."
3. Unsupervised FSD hasn't been priced in yet. Tesla hasn't really advertised FSD. When unsupervised approvals roll out region by region, a marketing push could follow.
4. Robotaxi is coming. Dan Ives expects launches in early to mid 2027. He calls 2027 a potential "golden year" for Tesla.
5. Optimus could be bigger than cars. Tesla dropped the profitable Model S and X to retool Fremont for humanoid robots. Ives sees Optimus arriving in the second half of 2027.
6. The Semi opens a huge commercial market. The Semi's 10-year cost of ownership at about half a diesel truck's. Fleet buyers like Walmart, PepsiCo and DHL buy on the math, and the plant targets 1,000 trucks a week.
7. Simple product lines create scale. Model 3 and Model Y are about 98% of deliveries. Shared parts, bulk buying and casting keep costs down, and Q3 deliveries beat expectations.
8. The balance sheet is a fortress. Tesla has over $40B in cash and investments plus a new, undrawn $30B credit line. That funds Cybercab, Optimus and energy without stress.
9. A SpaceX tie-up could add upside. Ives puts the odds of a Tesla–SpaceX merger by the end of 2027 at over 80%. That would add exposure to Starlink, launch and AI compute.
10. Competitors are falling behind. Ford's Q3 US EV sales fell about 80%, and the F-150 Lightning sold just 289 units. Tesla is also pulling in status-conscious buyers like the Bentley owner in the Oppenheim video.
G.L.A view: TSLA sits right in our five innovation platforms: AI, energy storage and robotics, the same cost-decline themes as ARK's Big Ideas 2026. That's why it's in our Sexy 6. Expect real volatility, because Musk's timelines often slip and autonomy depends on regulators. For long-term holders, volatility is vitality.
