Quote of the Day:”Far more money has been lost by investors preparing for corrections, or trying to anticipate corrections, than has been lost in corrections themselves.” (Peter Lynch)

1. Stocks take a breather after records The S&P 500 slipped 0.2% to 7,801.77 and the Nasdaq fell 0.2% to 27,538.69, a day after both closed at records. The Dow lost 341 points (0.7%) and the small-cap Russell 2000 fell 1.3%.

2. The 10-year yield hits its highest level in decades The 10-year Treasury touched 5.36% this morning, near its highest level since 2002. A strong $39 billion auction pulled it back to about 5.28% by the close. Rising 10-year yields hurt stocks because they raise the discount rate on future earnings (lower present value), make bonds a better alternative, and increase corporate borrowing costs. Growth stocks get hit hardest.Rising 10-year yields hurt stocks because they raise the discount rate on future earnings (lower present value), make bonds a better alternative, and increase corporate borrowing costs. 3. SpaceX lines up a $40 billion Nvidia chip deal CNBC reports SpaceX is in early talks with Apollo and several banks to finance a roughly $40 billion purchase of Nvidia GPUs through investment-grade debt, with the chips as collateral. Our view (long-term): that’s a huge vote of confidence in AI compute demand, and good news for both SPCX and NVDA.

4. Musk: Tesla and SpaceX will run Terafab themselves Musk said on X that Tesla and SpaceX will build and run the planned Terafab AI chip plant in Texas, and that TSMC might at most rent part of it. “Let there be ZERO doubt about that,” he wrote.

5. Robinhood buys bitcoin for its own balance sheet Robinhood added $25 million of bitcoin to its corporate treasury, its first purchase of this kind. Strategy (MSTR) also disclosed 334 more BTC this week, which brings its total to 848,000. Our view (long-term): one more blue-chip name joining the bitcoin treasury club.

6. Google and Unity launch Playground Google and Unity rolled out Playground, which lets anyone 18+ in the U.S. build and share video games from text prompts with no coding. Google also opened its SynthID Detector to everyone worldwide, so people can check whether images, video and audio were made with AI.

7. Oil briefly tops $102 Brent crude rose above $102 before settling at $100.20, because the war with Iran is still disrupting supply and the Houthis hit Saudi airports and military sites again. VP JD Vance said a deal to end the war needs Iran to make a “meaningful” cut to its uranium enrichment.

8. Watchlist scorecard PLTR rose 1.1% to $194.12. TSLA fell 0.75% to $377.81 and NVDA fell 0.74% to $237.47. Our view (long-term): these are quiet moves on a day when yields set the tone.

9. A rough day overseas Russian missile and drone strikes killed at least 21 people across Ukraine. South Korea’s Kospi fell 2% after a sharp drop in SK Hynix, and France’s CAC 40 lost 1.2% on government debt worries.

10. What’s next CPI is due Wednesday, October 14. Tesla reports Q3 earnings on October 21, and the Fed meets October 27 to 28. Our view (short-term): higher yields can shake innovation names in the near term. Volatility is vitality, so we stay patient and keep DCA’ing.
