THE TAPE Stocks clawed back an early dump as Treasury yields pulled off multi-decade highs. The Dow rose 0.04% to 50,926.74, the S&P 500 gained 0.20% to 7,666.48 and the Nasdaq added 0.04% to 26,871.60 (Reuters). Bitcoin stayed stuck in a roughly $82k to $85krange (CoinDesk), and spot bitcoin ETFs saw a $148.7M net outflow Wednesday, ending a nine-day inflow streak.

1. Yields spike to 24-year highs, then reverse The 10-year Treasury hit its highest level since about 2002, briefly above 5.3%, then buyers stepped in. Stocks went from red to a modest green close. That whipsaw was the day's real driver.

2. Fed patience talk crushes October hike odds Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson signaled the Fed may wait before hiking again after September's 25 bp move. CME FedWatch odds of an October hike of at least 25 bp fell to about 28%, from about 69% a week earlier. Minneapolis Fed President Kashkari still expects more hikes into 2027.

3. Broadcom to lend Anthropic up to $42B Per Reuters, Anthropic's IPO documents show Broadcom (AVGO) agreed to lend up to $42B toward infrastructure, tied to a $125.2B five-year TPU lease commitment. Anthropic could become Broadcom's largest compute customer next year, and the filing flags conflict-of-interest risks. AI circular-financing skepticism just got a fresh headline.

4. Accenture explodes on an AI-led beat ACN reported Q4 EPS of $3.29 versus about $3.18 expected and revenue of $18.68B versus about $18.03B. It guided FY27 growth of 3% to 6% and closed up about 16% after briefly surging more than 22%. Management cited $85B of new business heading into next year, with AI as the growth engine (CNBC).

5. Micron keeps the AI hardware trade alive MU closed about 3% higher after a better-than-expected outlook and roughly $32B in customer supply-agreement commitments (Reuters). The memory and AI demand story still has legs.

6. Macro: claims soft, ISM prices sticky, payrolls Friday Initial jobless claims fell to 197k, below the roughly 200k forecast. ISM manufacturing edged to 54.5 from 54.6, with a jump in input prices that fed inflation nerves. The labor market looks solid heading into Friday's jobs report.

7. Oil jumps on China's fuel-export suspension Brent settled up more than $4 a barrel, and energy was the best major S&P sector at about +1.9% (Reuters). Sticky oil plus sticky yields is the inflation mix traders hate.

8. Amazon locks in nuclear power for AI AMZN signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation for 690 MW from Maryland's Calvert Cliffs, supporting more than $3B of infrastructure. Same theme as Google, Meta and Microsoft: AI is a power trade as much as a chip trade.

9. Cerebras (CBRS) sits under its IPO price as lockup supply hits CBRS fell about 8.9% on Wednesday after a SemiAnalysis claim that OpenAI's newest ultrafast tier runs on standard GPUs (unconfirmed by either company). About 19.4M shares unlocked and officers filed Form 144s. The stock traded near $169 late Thursday, below the $185 IPO price. Our view: customer concentration and lockup waves are the near-term story, while the long-term fast-inference thesis is intact. Horizon: long-term speculative, wait-and-see short term.

10. Nike (NKE): a beat nobody should pay for Nike's fiscal Q1 FY27 EPS of $0.48 beat the $0.43 consensus, but revenue of $11.21B (down 4%, down 5% currency-neutral) missed the $11.32B estimate (Nike release; LSEG via CNBC). Gross margin rose 60 bps to 42.8% on lower logistics costs. The guide is the story: FY27 revenue down high-single digits and adjusted EPS of $1.15 to $1.35 versus about $1.65 expected. Greater China fell 22% to $1.18B, Converse fell 28% and Nike Direct fell 8%. The new "Pace" plan promises about $2.5B of savings through fiscal 2031, against about $1.0B of charges. Shares were about $33.78 at 5:10 PM ET, down 3.9% from the $35.15 close, inside our 8.6% implied move, and the after-hours move was still shifting. Savings are real. Demand has not turned. Short term: no-go on options. Long term: watchlist, not a buy. IMHO $NKE has been charging way too much for their sneakers for many years, with oil at $100 and the rise of legit “knock offs” from china Im going to stay far away from Nike.
