Futures are modestly red this morning, but don’t panic — this is not a crash, this is the market holding its breath before what could be the most important data day of 2026 so far.
1. CPI INFLATION DATA AT 8:30 AM ET — THIS IS THE BIG ONE.
March CPI is expected to come in at 3.4% year-over-year (up from 2.4% in February). That’s a MASSIVE jump. Core CPI expected at 3.7% (vs 3.8% prior). The energy crisis caused by the Strait of Hormuz blockade has been feeding directly into inflation. If CPI comes in hot, expect rate cut expectations to get slashed. If cooler than expected, we could see a significant rally.
2. STRAIT OF HORMUZ STILL SHUT — OIL NEAR $100/BARREL.
Despite the US-Iran ceasefire, the Strait remains physically closed. Brent crude pushing toward $100/barrel. Israel and Hezbollah trading fire in Lebanon. US-Iran negotiations begin TODAY in Islamabad.
3. U of Michigan Consumer Sentiment (10 AM ET): Expected 52.1 (down from 54.1).
🚨 MEDIA BS ALERT: Energy-driven inflation spikes are historically TRANSITORY when caused by supply disruptions, not money printing. The media wants you to panic-sell. Don’t fall for it. (Rule #8)
OVERNIGHT: China PPI turned positive (+0.5% y/y) for first time since Oct 2022. Japan PPI accelerated to 2.6%, signaling BoJ rate hike this month.
